Let’s take it back to 98’ real quick this week. This was a time where the East and West Coast reigned in the Hip Hop community, but the South had begun to build a name for itself thanks to unique artists like Cash Money, Outkast and Mystikal to name a few. More importantly, we only had one more year left until 2000 and no one really knew where the world would be . It didn’t help that Busta Rhymes scared the hell out of many with the intro of his 3rd LP Extinction Level Event: The Final World Front. The album boasted an apocalyptic theme, a horrifying intro, and the lead single Gimme Some Mo’s video showcasing an evil little blue monster for nightmare fuel. With this week’s guest Nicki Mayo (@NickiMayoNews), we take a look back at our top three songs from the album, Nicki talks about the time she saw Jay Z perform in the late 90s, and we also discuss Busta’s unique approach to hip hop at a time where the formula was developing, but still structured.
